The countryside still looks green due to afternoon rain showers.

Dinosaur chick
For a while, the adolescent chicks with their naked heads reminded me of dinosaur chicks. Now, only Cassie is still lacking feathers on the head.

I’ve wanted a label maker for a long time. While I was visiting my sister, I drooled over hers, which is a peripheral to her PC. I am currently doing a lot of organizing in the mudroom and garage, and decided to encourage myself by giving myself this little freestanding model. I paid way less than list price for it, though. The only thing I don’t like about it is the size of the print in the manual.
Pansies
A few pansies have managed to survive bunnies, torrential downpours, and even hail.

Shrek 2
I saw Shrek 2 with Jack this afternoon. I haven’t laughed so much in a very long time. Even the screaming infant did little to detract from my pleasure. Since I am not a student of popular culture, I am sure there were many references I didn’t catch. However, I did catch one thing before Jack did….

How NOT to start the day
I did something unprecedented yesterday evening: I decided to take a nap at 6:30. I almost never take naps. At 8:30, I woke up long enough to realize, “Good, Jack is feeding the horses.” At 12:30, I woke and realized I was still dressed. I took off my clothes, and went back to bed. Finally, I woke up again about 4:30, feeling completely refreshed.
So this morning I decided to catch up reading email and just relaxing. I felt more cheerful than I had since discovering Lily’s injury because it had gone down so much when I removed the wrap yesterday. The vet was quite optimistic when she saw it before she put the gel cast on it.
Then my neighbors called. They could see a deer hung up in my fence. Jack had just left for the office. We agreed to meet at the deer in five minutes and see what we could do.
The Address Book
I have been working on setting up an address list for my husband’s family using a PHP program called The Address Book. Jack is the oldest of twelve children, and helps to maintain a website for the family. Currently, I have the application hosted on my local server while we enter the data required for siblings, cousins, and the offspring thereof. After we get it populated, my husband’s hope is that people will then maintain their own data. I don’t think this is very likely, but at least we will have made it available.
