I like these dyc volunteer flowers almost as much as some that I’ve planted.

I’ve had more blossoms off this day-lily plant this year than in previous years. I used to think the ruffly effect meant that the bloom had been damaged in the bud, but now think it may be a the way it is supposed to be. Anyone know?

These day-lilies didn’t so much bloom as explode. The blossoms are huge: as big as my spread hand.

This photo of my other variety of columbines is prettier than the real thing. I think I bought the originals based on what the bloom looked like photo. In reality, these columbines always remind me of Victorian half-mourning. If they ever fail to reseed themselves, I will manage to bear up under the disappointment.
