The web site GoPetFriendly.com Pet Travel allows you to find hotels and other accommodations that allow pets. Ideally, I think vacations are to give me a break from taking care of critters, but not everyone feels that way. I did find Red Roof’s policy of allowing pets very handy when I drove three cats and an elderly Golden Retriever from Plano, TX to Colorado Springs. Dairy Queens were also very useful, because they were spaced about every sixty miles in Texas, allowing me a break from driving, a refill of coffee, a bathroom (needed after all the coffee) and a chance to walk the dog.

Thanks for the shout out for GoPetFriendly! As I write this, we are in Charlottesville, VA visiting Monticello with our two dogs. The grounds of Jefferson’s retirement home are pet friendly!
That is so cool that Monticello is pet friendly! We have lots of guests bringing their pets when they stay at our Blue Ridge Mountain cabins, and they’re always looking for things to do. Since Monticello is only 50 minutes away from us, I’ll add that to my list!

We’ve been traveling with pets for years. Motel 6 also accepts pets (all Accor hotels do, I believe) and the Sleep Inn. Our very favorite Pet Friendly hotel in the past has been the Drury Inn. The place we stayed in Pennsylvania in November, the Staybridge Suites in Royersford, was also pet friendly.
