The great Thoroughbred, John Henry, just celebrated his 32nd birthday. His caretakers report that he is just as mean and nasty as ever. (via matociquala)

I always liked that horse!
Wow, a grand old man. My cousins in Pueblo had a horse my ex husband rode when he was a kid–and that I saw in the pasture in the mid-70s. He was 32, too. They found him dead in the pasture the following year. Love all your photos and the crocus do give us hope for the warm weather that is bound to come.
The Great JOHN HENRY is gone.
Today, Monday, October 8, 2007 at 7:00 PM ET, the Champion JOHN HENRY was peacefully put to sleep in the company of those most close to him at the Kentucky Horse Park. His kidneys were no longer functioning and John was no longer comfortable.
So, we have lost another wonderful and great horse that God had given to us.
I am grateful that I last saw John in April and spent a great deal of time with him, because I knew I would not see him again in this life.
My sympathies to all others who loved this magnificent animal. He runs with all the other greats, and he is once again young and strong!!!
