I walked down to the waterfront this morning, and drank my first cup of coffee overlooking Lake Ontario. I’ve been successful in staying on Mountain Daylight Time, keeping my bedtime at eleven or twelve o’clock, which works well for a science fiction convention. As a result, I have been getting out of the hotel room at what seems a shockingly late time of the morning for me.
Last night, I helped count site selection votes. Los Angeles narrowly won over Kansas City for the right to host the 2006 World Con. I acted as a proctor, watching the counters from the two bid committees. I never know whether to congratulate or commiserate with the winners. Throwing a world con is a lot of work, especially considering it is done with volunteer effort.
I am making this entry from Jack’s lap top. Some kind soul brought a wireless point which is set up in the Internet Lounge, so people are clustered around the hall outside with their laptops using the wireless connection. The armchairs are more comfortable than the chairs in the Internet Lounge, and it is cooler as well.
