Very useful in a in a mono-spaced world. I also thought the author spent too much time disparaging the double spacers of the world (probably needed to fill in all the space he had left).<\/p>\n<p>One point for continuing the double space method is to make it easier to parse e-text by computer. Although with computing getting much more capable of figuring out what people intend, this may be a moot point.<\/p>\n<p>And, of course, this does not apply to writers that are using <a href=\"http:\/\/writeitsideways.com\/how-and-when-to-use-white-space-in-writing\/?doing_wp_cron\">the spaces<\/a> on a page <a href=\"http:\/\/allpoetry.com\/poem\/8494115-l_a...__a_leaf_falls_on_loneliness_-by-e_e_cummings\">to complete<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.doublechange.com\/issue3\/cummingsrev-eng.htm\">their work<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I was trying to find a link, using E E Cummings as an example. I found <em>l(a<\/em> as a candidate and then went on to find at least three different versions <a href=\"http:\/\/www.doublechange.com\/issue3\/cummingsrev-eng.htm\">on the web<\/a>, laid out differently and spelled differently. And I don&#8217;t have a printed copy in hand to determine which version is closest to the author&#8217;s vision. But if you go to <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Collected-Poems-1922-1938-Cummings\/dp\/B000FX67PE\">Collected Poems 1922-1938\u00a0 <\/a><\/em>you will see that a number of his poems depend on the actual layout of the letters and the empty spaces,\u00a0 as well as the content of the words.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two spaces after a period: Why you should never, ever do it. &#8211; Slate Magazine.
