The Australia Trip – 1999
Photo Albums for Australia Trip.
I originally wrote this up in a web report back in 1999 but then lost all the original layout and commentary a year or two later. I recently stumbled across the images and so I am trying to re-establish the missing trip report. Except, of Course, I no longer know a lot of the details I had put into the original commentary. But, I think the pictures are of interest on their own.
Elaine and I traveled to Melbourne to attend the World Science Fiction Convention.
We spent a week there at the con and then took off for a tour of Tasmania, organized by an SF fan from Hobart, Robin Johnson.
Unfortunately, I have forgotten the names of all the fans who joined us. In Tasmania we started at:
- Launceston, then onto
- Cradle Mountain, then onto
- Bicheno, then onto
- Freycinet Peninsula, then onto
- Port Arthur, then onto
- Hobart, ending with a stop at
- Richmond on our way to the airport
Leaving Tasmania we flew on to Airlie Beach, via Hamilton Island, instead of Prosperine, taking the water taxi back to the mainland. There we met and stayed with some friends who have “retired” to Airlie Beach.
After spending a few days in a condo overlooking the town and seeing some interesting land sights, we went on a three-day cruise on the Great Barrier reef on a Catamaran, the Pacific Star.
- Pacific Star Day 1
- Pacific Star Day 2
- Pacific Star Day 3
After the cruise we headed back to Sydney to fly home
Here are some maps of the areas we visited.
This was slapped together in a bit of a rush. I will see how it works and adjust as needed.
